Increasing Camel Productivity through Joined Control of Surra

Kenya Agricultural Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) have conducted a three year intervention research on camel in order to Control and manage Camel ‘Surra’.

Surra or Trypanosomiasis disease is caused by a parasite that multiplies in the blood and body fluids of camel and whose case fatality rate is nearly 100 percent if untreated.

KALRO and partners Terra Nouva and IGAD Sheikh Technical Veterinary School (ISTVS) in Somaliland have been carrying out intervention research titled “Intensifying Camel Productivity through Integrated Control of Surra within the Somali ecosystem of the Horn of Africa”.
