Does the name Caren Jepkemei ring a bell with you? If you have not been catching up with what is been happening in the modelling and fashion world, Caren is one of the few African models making it big on the international runway.
Caren, who has become a firm fashion favourite among fashion editors and designer houses, has walked in almost every notable show in the past year. From Balmain, Valentino to Alberta Ferretti, the Kenyan-born model has done it all.
Last year, she hit a huge milestone when she landed a Vogue Italia cover posing alongside Ethiopian model, Akway Amar while donning classy bodysuits with shinny golden shoes.
“Finally, I have had a big dream come true. So proud to have finally made it to the cover of Vogue Italy with my sister Amar from Ethiopia”, an elated Jepkemei wrote on Twitter.
“Last year was amazing. When the year began, I did not know how much I would achieve; but at the end, I had worked for the most amazing brands and ended up having such an amazing breakthrough”, she said in an interview with OkayAfrica.
Caren further said she hopes to work with more brands and that her dreams are slowly turning into reality.
“I wish it turns out to be an amazing year. There are those brands I have been wishing to do as a model, and I am hoping that this year, I achieve my dreams and also grow bigger,” she said in the interview last year.
Well, 2022 started on a high for her as she strutted the runway in the recently concluded New York Fashion Week, featuring designs by renowned designers. She seems to be living her dream as she has also worked and will continue to work with some of the biggest modelling brands in the world.
Despite enjoying the success that has come with her modelling career, Caren had some wise words for aspiring models.
“To the new models who want to reach greater heights, all I can say to them is, being a model comes with lots of sacrifices and commitment,” she said.
